Key Event Description
In mussels which brood their young internally to a larval phase (glochidia) and release them for further development within the gills of a host fish, many employ a technique of luring the host fish using mantel displays. Coloration, shape and movement of the mantel may mimic a prey item of the host fish. In some species, the mantel may trap the fish while the glochidia are released.
